Kentucky Virtual High School

Students from schools throughout Kentucky are taking engaging, rigorous high school courses online through the Kentucky Virtual High School (KVHS), a program of the Kentucky Department of Education. In choosing KVHS, schools are able to provide students with equal access to expanded learning options, flexible scheduling, and an engaging learning environment that differs from the traditional classroom setting.
.
Working with KVHS every school, regardless of size or location, can:
• Expand curricular offerings, including 23 Advanced Placement courses and four years of 4 world languages
• Offer each student the Kentucky precollege curriculum, including the two-year world language requirement that took effect in Fall 2004
• Offset teacher shortages and offer low-enrollment classes affordably
• Offer the opportunity to earn the Commonwealth Diploma
• Resolve student scheduling conflicts and credit-transfer issues
• Provide high school courses to qualified middle school students
• Respond appropriately to the needs of the Gifted & Talented students
• Offer year-round credit recovery
• Provide quality alternative education and home-bound instruction
• Provide the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school through Advanced Placement courses.
.
All KVHS classes are taught by Kentucky certified teachers. All courses meet state and national curriculum standards. A grant from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority offers scholarships for Advanced Placement course tuitions to qualifying Kentucky students each semester. KVHS students perform above both the state and national averages on Advanced Placement exams.

A core curriculum of Advanced Placement courses is offered, assisting schools in the implementation of KRS 160.348, which requires schools to offer students credit-based courses for transition to college.

The Kentucky Virtual High School is an approved provider, with the Kentucky Virtual University and Kentucky Virtual Library, for supplemental services under No Child Left Behind. KVHS partners with GEAR-UP under a special agreement to provide for-credit and math enrichment services to middle school students.
